Greenville, MS – In Washington County Circuit Court, a jury found Kevin Boston guilty of Capital Murder for killing Willie Dean, III on the grounds of Trigg Elementary School, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.  Boston had recently been indicted by a Washington County grand jury in January 2015 for the charge of Capital Murder.

The trial began on Monday, July 20, 2015 when jury reported that afternoon to begin the jury selection process.  By Tuesday evening a jury was selected and they began hearing testimony on Wednesday morning.    The State of Mississippi presented its case to the jury on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and the trial ended with closing arguments this morning.  During the course of the trial, witnesses explained the events as they saw them on May 13, 2014.  Witnesses testified about seeing Boston and Dean talking moments before Boston stabbed Dean causing his death.  During the presentation of his defense, Kevin Boston took the stand and testified that the killing occurred in self defense but his story was not consistent with the statements given by other witnesses nor was it consistent with what Boston told the police on the day of the killing after his arrest.

After two and a half hours of deliberations, the Washington County jury returned a verdict of Guilty to the crime of Capital Murder.  Shortly after the verdict was read, Judge Ashley Hines sentenced Boston to Life in prison without the possibility of parole.  The State did not seek the Death Penalty in this case.

Richardson added that, “the District Attorney’s office hopes that this conviction gives the family a sense of relief that Willie Dean’s killer has been brought to justice.  I can recall just one year ago meeting with Dean’s widow and explaining to her the process of Boston being indicted after all the evidence is collected and assuring her that we would do all that we could to get her some sense of justice.”
