Adrian Darby convicted for assaulting his neighbor
Greenwood, MS – In Greenwood, Adrian Darby was sentenced to 18 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections by Judge Carol White-Richard, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.
On February 16 2014, Darby was arrested by the Greenwood Police Department for physically assaulting a Greenwood man. Officers charged Adrian Darby with threatening to shoot and violently beating Glenn Harris in the face on Avenue G in Greenwood, MS. After the assault, Harris was transferred to the University Medical Center for treatment. Darby was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault.
Instead of standing trial, Darby pled this week to the charge of Aggravated Assault and was ordered to serve 18 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the Armed Robbery conviction. Judge Richard ordered Darby to serve the State’s recommendation of 13 in prison. After serving his sentence in custody, Darby will then be on probation for an additional 5 years.
Richardson added that, “the District Attorney’s office appreciates the hard work of the Greenwood Police Department. We believe justice has been served in this case and we hope Mr. Harris can heal and move on from this violent attack.”
