Johnny Maybell pleads guilty for 2013 homicide
Greenville, MS – In Washington County Circuit Court, Johnny Maybell, 30 yoa, pled guilty and was sentenced for the shooting death of Robert Anderson, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today. Maybell had been indicted by a Washington County grand jury in September 2013.
Johnny Maybell was scheduled to stand trial on today but he opted to plead guilty to his actions. Maybell was facing charges of Capital Murder as well as Possession of Firearms by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Johnny Maybell had one prior conviction for Burglary of a Dwelling that occurred in 2001. In open court, Johnny Maybell admitted his guilt and was sentenced to a total 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Maybell was sentenced to serve 25 years in custody and after serving said time he will be placed on 5 years of supervision. After entering his plea of guilty Johnny Maybell was remanded to the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections where he will serve the duration of his sentence.
Richardson added that, “the District Attorney’s office hopes that these convictions give the family and friends of Robert Anderson a sense of relief that his killer has been brought to justice. We would also like to thank the Greenville Police Department for their tireless efforts in solving this case.”
