Jury Finds House Burglar Guilty
Greenville, MS- After a twelve (12) minute deliberation, a Washington County Jury found Greenville resident, Donaysha Morris, guilty of burglary of a dwelling earlier this week, District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced today.
Richardson said, “[t]he jury in this case showed with their verdict that Washington County residents are not going to sit idly by and allow people to break into their homes and businesses without consequences.” Donaysha Morris was indicted by the July 2017 Grand Jury.
Morris was charged with breaking and entering a residence located on Canal Street, in Greenville, where she stole clothing, jewelry and other personal items. Morris stood trial for her actions on Wednesday of this week, and after a few minutes of deliberations the Washington County jury of her peers found her Guilty.
The case was heard by Senior Circuit Court Judge Ashley Hines. Assistant District Attorneys, M. Austin Frye and John L. Herzog, Jr., tried the case on behalf of the State of Mississippi and the Office of the District Attorney for the Fourth Circuit Court District. Sentencing for Morris has been scheduled for the next upcoming term of the Court.
Officers and Investigators with the Greenville Police Department handled the case with efficiency and attention to detail, which ultimately resulted in the conviction. The District Attorney’s Office commends the Greenville Police Department for their skill and dedication in seeing that this case was thoroughly investigated and prepared for trial.
