RANDOLYN FAINT SENTENCED FOR DOUBLE HOMICIDE

Indianola, MS- Randolyn Faint, 35 yoa, of Indianola was convicted of two (2) counts of Second Degree Murder in Sunflower County Circuit Court following his guilty pleas on Monday, of this week before Judge Richard Smith.

On Sunday, September 6, 2020, officers with the Indianola Police Department responded to Pershing Avenue where two victims were shot inside of a home. Officers found the bodies of Doris Floyd (58) and her daughter Latonya Hodges (44) inside of Hodges’ home. Both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds. Hodges current boyfriend, Randolyn Faint was developed as a suspect.

Law enforcement officers were informed that after the shooting, Randolyn Faint notified family members that he had shot Hodges and her mother, and that he left the scene in Doris Floyd’s vehicle. Faint turned himself in to the Sunflower County Sheriff Department where the murder weapon was taken into evidence. Ballistic reports confirmed the firearm collected matched evidence collected from the crime scene.

Faint was sentenced to forty (40) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the crimes of Second-Degree Murder. Faint must serve thirty years in custody followed by the remainder on Post Release Supervision. Randolyn Faint must serve each day of the sentence and he is not eligible for early release or parole.

This case was prosecuted by the District Attorney, W. Dewayne Richardson, Assistant District Attorneys Takiyah Perkins and Stanley Alexander, who express their heartfelt sympathy to the family. “All relationships have their ups and downs, but there is absolutely no excuse to be consumed with so much anger and rage that you violently kill human beings. Those who commit these crimes will be held accountable in the Fourth District.” Perkins added.

The Office of the District Attorney extends its appreciation for the work of former and current investigators and officers of the Indianola Police Department who investigated this case.

Judicial Process

Citizen's Involvement in the criminal justice system typically begins with them being a victim, witness, or defendant of a crime. Arrests are made generally by a judge-issued warrant or by a police officer observing a crime in process. Law enforcement may also arrest someone if it has probable cause to believe the person committed a criminal offense. When individuals are arrested they are routinely advised of their Miranda Rights upon arrest, advising them that they have the right to remain silent and that anything they say will be used against them in court. On being questioned, defendants have the right to have their attorney present or to have one appointed if they are indigent.

Felony defendants appear at a first appearance and have the charges reviewed. A judge will inquire if the defendant has an attorney. If low income, the defendant may qualify for a court-appointed lawyer. No plea is entered at this time unless the defendant wishes to plead guilty or waives indictment and has an attorney present. All felony cases are presented to a grand jury in the county that the crime was committed. In the State of Mississippi, only a grand jury has the authority to indict an individual for a felony offense and require them to stand trial for the charges alleged in an affidavit and indictment.

If an indictment is issued, the defendant is bound over to stand trial or enter a guilty plea to the crimes alleged. When a criminal trial occurs all 12 jurors must find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Sentences are decided by Circuit Court Judges in all criminal matters. In most cases a recommendation is made regarding imprisonment, probation, fines and restitution.
