REPEAT BURGLARY DEFENDANTS SENTENCED TO MDOC

Greenville, MS – District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced this week that Curley Faulkner pled guilty on October 31st, 2022, in Washington County Circuit Court, to one count of Auto Burglary, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Felon.

With the case set for trial before Circuit Court Judge Carol White-Richard, Faulkner chose instead to plead guilty to the charges brought against him.  Faulkner was sentenced to 7 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 5 of those years to be served as Habitual time (meaning Faulkner is ineligible for parole or early release).

The charges against Faulkner stem from a 2022 incident wherein Faulkner broke into a vehicle and removed two firearms he discovered inside.  Given Faulkner’s past convictions (also for auto burglary), he was sentenced pursuant to Mississippi’s Habitual Offender statute (commonly referred to as the “Three Strike Rule”)- with two prior felony convictions, Faulkner’s sentence removes the possibility that he will be granted parole or any other early release from prison.

Roger Chaney pled guilty earlier this term of Washington County Circuit Court to the charges of Armed Robbery and Commercial Burglary.  Chaney was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Richard Smith to the state’s recommendation of 17 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 7 of those years to be served behind bars.

The charges arose from two separate incidents – One, when Chaney attempted to rob a clerk at the CEFCO service station on Highway 1 South in Greenville, and the other when Chaney and a co-Defendant broke into the equipment lot of the Entergy building on Main Street with the intent to steal equipment and other items.

The cases against Faulkner and Chaney were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney M. Austin Frye, who expressed his appreciation for the hard work and dedication of both the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Greenville Police Department for their rapid and diligent handling of these cases.
