SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS
Greenville, MS—James Williams, Jr. of Greenville entered a guilty plea to the crime of Sexual Battery in May, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.
Williams pled guilty on the eve of his trial set to begin the week of May 20 in the Circuit Court of Washington County. Williams’ charge stemmed from an incident occurring in the Summer of 2018—less than a year following his release from prison after serving almost ten years for Child Abuse—when the victim called her mother to disclose that she had been sexually assaulted by Williams the night before. Williams was arrested that day and confessed to his crime. With his trial looming just days away, Williams decided to admit his guilt in open court and pled guilty. He was thereafter sentenced to the District Attorney’s recommendation of twenty years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kaylon McCou who expressed gratitude on behalf of The Office of the District Attorney for the diligent effort of the Greenville Police Department and the unwavering courage of the victim.
