Greenville, MS- Charles “Peanut” Young, 25, pled guilty today to the April 11, 2017 shooting death of 46 year-old Fredrick Bryant, District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced today.
With multiple charges pending in Washington County Circuit Court, Young entered pleas of guilty for the crimes that he has committed and admitted his involvement.
On April 11, 2017, Fredrick Bryant was shot multiple times and killed at the intersection of Walker and Eureka Streets in Greenville, MS. A witness later identified Young as the shooter. Young was then arrested and charged with Bryant’s Murder. On Thursday morning, Charles Young entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Manslaughter and Judge Richard Smith sentenced Young to the State’s recommendation of 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
In addition to pleading to Bryant’s killing, Charles Young also pled guilty to stabbing a fellow inmate while housed at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility. In May 2017, while being held in custody for Bryant’s death, Young was charged with stabbing Benjamin Ingram in the left side and buttocks while both men were being held for pending felony charges. Young pled guilty to the crime of Aggravated Assault for this incident. Young was sentenced to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for this crime as well.
Young’s case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney M. Austin Frye and he expressed how our hearts go out to the family of Fredrick Bryant and we hope that Young’s conviction brings them some sense of justice and closure.
