Indianola, MS- Earlier today at the Sunflower Courthouse defendants, Garrick Price and Damien Ross were found guilty in the 2017 shooting that resulted in the death of Arron Beamon and the wounding of others, District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced today.
A Sunflower County Grand Jury indicted Price and Ross for shooting Savantae Pernell, Zachary Lee and killing Arron Beamon on April 17, 2017. Beamon, a resident of Moorhead, was shot in the back and killed while driving his vehicle on Galaxie Street in Indianola, MS. State’s witnesses identified Price and Ross as the shooters who approached the victims as they parked on Galaxie to drop off an Indianola resident.
Officers with the Indianola Police Department immediately responded to the scene and learned through the course of their investigation that Price and Ross were the shooters. On scene officers located more than a dozen shell casings that had been recently fired.
After three hours of deliberations, a Sunflower County Jury found Price and Ross guilty of all counts charged. Price was found guilty of First Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Ross was found guilty of First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder.
Sentencing has been continued to a later date. Under the laws of Mississippi, the only sentence for First Degree Murder is life in prison. The defendants face a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison on each of the two Attempted Murder charges for which they were convicted.
Price and Ross’s case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Takiyah Perkins and John Herzog, Jr.. “The convictions of these two defendants could not and would not have been possible without the brave citizens of Sunflower County who testified in this case about what happened on the night of April 17, 2017; their willingness to come forward about what they witnessed has made Sunflower County a safer place to live,” Perkins said. The District Attorney’s Office also thanks the Indianola Police Department for their hard work on the case and the first responders who valiantly attempted to save the life of Mr. Beamon and treated Mr. Pernell.
“The loss of Mr. Beamon impacted the entire community, and unfortunately there’s nothing the State of Mississippi can do to bring Mr. Beamon back, but the only thing we can do is to continue to fight for Justice for our Mississippi Delta,” Perkins further said.
