Greenwood man sentenced to 20 years for shooting

Greenwood, MS – District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today that Jeffrey Anderson pled guilty this morning to the charge of Aggravated Assault. Following his plea Circuit Judge Margaret Carey-McCray sentenced him to serve 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Anderson was scheduled to stand trial on tomorrow but he chose to plead guilty to for his actions.  Anderson admitted to shooting his victim while in a store parking lot here in Leflore County.  Judge McCray sentenced Jeffrey Anderson to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections where she ordered that Anderson serve the first 10 years of his sentence in prison.  Anderson remains in the custody of the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department to await transportation to the State Penitentiary.

Richardson added that, “the Office of the District Attorney’s appreciates the hard work of our law enforcement officers and we recognize that they work tirelessly everyday to keep our communities safe.”
