Greenwood, MS – Jadarius Harris, 23 yoa, of Itta Bena was convicted of Second-Degree Murder in Leflore County Circuit Court following his guilty plea on Monday, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.

On July 11, 2020, deputies of the Leflore County Sheriff’s assisted Itta Bena Police in the area of George Street in Itta Bena, MS. Deputies found Cordarious Williams, 31 yoa, laying in the street with obvious gunshot wounds.  Williams eventually succumbed to the injuries that he had sustained.

Witnesses on scene informed investigators that Harris drove up and began shooting at Williams while Harris was inside a vehicle.  Witnesses went on to say that when Williams attempted to run from the gunfire, Harris exited the vehicle, chased Williams on foot and continued to shoot Williams until Williams collapsed from his injuries.

Harris was sentenced to serve thirty (30) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the crime of Second-Degree Murder.  Defendants sentenced for Murder convictions are not entitled to early release nor parole.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Stanley Alexander who stated, “I hope this sentence will cause others to think twice before trying to settle their differences with guns.”

The District Attorney’s Office appreciates the dedication shown to this community by the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.  While this crime was committed within the city limits of Itta Bena, deputies did not hesitate to respond quickly to secure the crime scene, collect evidence and talk to witnesses to insure that all the appropriate steps were taken for a successful prosecution.  We hope that this conviction assists the family and friends of Mr. Williams with a sense of closure and allows them to begin healing from the death of their loved one.
