Kendall Woodson, Sr. found guilty of Domestic Aggravated Assault
Greenwood, MS – In Leflore County Circuit Court, Kendall Woodson, Sr., 39 yoa, was found guilty for pouring hot grease on his wife, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today. Woodson had been indicted by a Leflore County grand jury for the charge of Attempted First Degree Murder for the incident that occurred on August 6, 2015.
After an hour of deliberations, a Leflore County jury announced their verdict in open court at 8:15 last night. Woodson and his victim had been married for 20 years at the time of the assault. When deputies with the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department found Mrs. Woodson at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital she reported that the two had been arguing for days when she finally decided to move out. The victim reported that before she could leave, Woodson began arguing with her again and then physically assaulted her before throwing hot grease in her face and chest area.
Woodson was arrested about a month later after he fled Leflore County. He was captured in Oklahoma where he was extradited back to Mississippi and charged for his crime. Woodson was convicted of the lesser included offense of Domestic Aggravated Assault. The penalty in the State of Mississippi for Domestic Aggravated Assault is 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Woodson will be sentenced at a later date when the sentencing is set by the trial judge.
Richardson added that, “we commend the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department for their tireless efforts in seeking justice in this case.” Woodson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Tim Jones and Trish Rodgers.
