Marquis “Ripper” McKinney and Cordale McCarty pled guilty to their involvement in May 2014 Shootings
Greenville, MS – In Washington County Circuit Court, Marquis McKinney, 23 yoa, and Cordale McCarty, 29 yoa, pled guilty to their roles in a shooting that occurred on May 2, 2014, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.
On May 2, 2014, officers with the Greenville Police Department responded to 247 Sixth Street where two shot victims were located. Ervin Simmons, Sr. was pronounced dead on the scene as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and a female victim survived this vicious attack after being shot multiple times as well. After a thorough investigation, the Greenville Police Department arrested and charged Marquis McKinney, Cordale McCarty, and Camara Johnson with Capital Murder and Attempted Murder.
Recently in Circuit Court Marquis McKinney and Cordale McCarty pled guilty to their actions and admitted their roles in killing Simmons and attempting to kill the female victim. Sentencing for both defendants has been continued until after the resolution of their co-defendant, Camara Johnson’s case.
Richardson added that, “I would like to thank the Greenville Police Department for their tireless efforts in solving this case.” This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Takiyah Perkins and Kaylon McCou.
