Greenwood, MS – Marko Hunter, 49 yoa, of Greenwood, MS, pled guilty and was sentenced on one count of Second-Degree Murder and two counts of aggravated assault, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.
On September 16, 2024 at approximately 10:24 p.m., officers on patrol with the Greenwood Police Department were flagged down by a concerned citizen who reported that several male subjects had been shot on East Gibbs Street near Walthall Street. Upon arrival officers discovered gunshot victims Antonio Crain, Marquavius McIntyre, and Markeveous Young lying in or near Gibbs Street. It was reported to the officers that “Marko” had just shot them while they were riding in the same vehicle and had left the scene in the same tan Chevy Tahoe. A pursuit ensued, and Hunter was detained by police shortly thereafter. Antonio Crain did not survive the shooting, while Young and McIntyre were transported by Pafford and received treatment at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital and eventually recovered.
On August 17, 2026, Hunter appeared in the Circuit Court of Leflore County and pled guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He received a sentence of thirty-seven years (37) with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with twenty-seven (27) of those years to serve in custody, the remaining ten (10) suspended with five (5) years of post-release supervision. For the aggravated assaults of Young and McIntyre he received a sentence of twenty (20) years for each count. Hunter will not be eligible for early release nor parole and must serve every day of his murder sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The case against Hunter was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Trish Hicks who expressed her appreciation for the hard work of the Greenwood Police Department and the courage of the surviving victims who aided in bringing justice in this case for themselves and especially for the family of Mr. Antonio Cain.
