Greenwood, MS – District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced today that after a three-day trial Tyrell Stigler was found guilty on August 26, 2026 by a Lafayette County jury of the First-Degree Murder of William McGee and the First-Degree Murder of Larry Montgomery. After three hours of deliberations, The Lafayette County jury announced their verdicts in open court.
Leflore County Circuit Court Judge Margaret Carey-McCray sentenced Stigler to life in the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole on both charges of First-Degree Murder. This is the only sentence that Mississippi law allows for the crime of First-Degree Murder.
Due to the amount of pre-trial publicity surrounding Stigler, he requested a change of venue in this case. The case was moved to Lafayette County and a trial was attempted in June of 2026. A jury was unable to be seated, so the trial was moved to August 24, 2026.
On September 17, 2020, officers with the Greenwood Police Department heard gunfire in the Westside area of downtown Greenwood. After canvassing the area, they heard another round of gunfire coming from the Main Street area. Within minutes they discovered Larry Montgomery lying in the intersection of Main Street and Johnson Street right outside the club popularly known as Memphis Style. Officers found William McGee lying in the grass mere feet from Mr. Montgomery. Pafford EMS transported Mr. McGee to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, but he later succumbed to his multiple gunshot injuries. Larry Montgomery had already passed away by the time that law enforcement and emergency medical technicians made it to the scene. After being arrested as a person of interest in other incidents around Greenwood, Stigler confessed to shooting both Montgomery and McGee.
Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Sturniolo Langford and Patricia A. Hicks prosecuted the double murder case. ADA Langford expressed her appreciation to the Greenwood Police Department for their quick response to the scene of the incident. Both Langford and Hicks are also grateful for the cooperation of the Greenwood Police Department, the Leflore County Sheriff Department, the Lafayette County Circuit Clerk’s Office, the Lafayette County District Attorney’s Office, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and all witnesses working at other agencies who traveled to aid in getting justice for the McGee and Montgomery families.
ADA. Langford stated that, “No matter what the sentence is, it won’t bring Mr. McGee and Mr. Montgomery back to their families. But, it is our hope that they feel as though justice has been done and are able to attempt to move forward in their healing process knowing that the person who took their family members away from them is finally seeing the consequences of his actions. We will continue to fight for justice for all of Stigler’s victims as well as all of the victims and victims’ families in Leflore County.”
Stigler was previously convicted by a Lafayette County jury in March of this year of the First-Degree Murder of Cordarell Stanley. For this conviction Stigler was also sentenced to Life in prison. He has three more cases pending trial: one murder case, one trafficking case, and one case that involves two capital murders. All cases will have to be tried outside of Leflore County due to his request to change venue.
