Greenville, MS – District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson announced this week that Ashley Ricardo Brown pled guilty Monday, November 18th, in Washington County Circuit Court in two separate cases involving Aggravated Assault, Shooting into a Dwelling and two charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

With both cases set for trial before Judge Richard Smith, Brown chose instead to plead guilty to the charges brought against him.  Brown was sentenced to 20 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections with 12 years to be served in custody for the charge of Aggravated Assault, along with 10 years to serve in custody for Shooting into a Dwelling, 10 years to serve in custody for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and an additional 10 years for the second charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The charges against Brown stem from two separate incidents in 2023 wherein Brown traveled to the home of an ex-girlfriend and fired a handgun at her and her home.  While the ex-girlfriend was not harmed, Brown’s actions were reckless, dangerous and could have resulted in serious injury or death.  Additionally, Brown’s prior criminal history prohibits him from possessing a firearm.

The case against Brown was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney M. Austin Frye, who expressed his appreciation for the Greenville Police Department’s diligent and thorough investigation of the case.  Frye stated: “GPD continues to focus their efforts on finding effective and viable solutions for the gun-violence epidemic our community currently faces, and the sentence handed down in this case is a great example of their hard work coming to fruition.  As a prosecutor, the best deterrent to gun-violence is the successful conviction and lengthy jail time for those individuals who break our firearm and violent crime laws.”
