Greenwood, MS – Marvin Ivey a.k.a. Messy Marvin was sentenced today for the 2022 home burglary and attempted murder of a Greenwood resident. He was found guilty after a trial in front of a jury of his peers in October 2024.
Because Ivey was facing sentencing as a Violent Habitual Offender Senior Judge Ashley Hines held a sentencing hearing at the Leflore County Courthouse. Witnesses from Iowa and Texas travelled to Greenwood to testify about Ivey’s prior controlled substance convictions and his prior conviction of the aggravated rape of another female victim. An agent with the Mississippi Department of Corrections positively identified Marvin as the individual he had supervised for Iowa on a prior conviction, and the Chief Deputy with the Leflore County Sheriff Department described for the court the gruesomeness of the crime scene he arrived. Finally, a family representative detailed for the court the lasting effects that this violence has had on his sister mentally, physically and emotionally.
After listening to the testimony, Judge Hines found that Ivey was in fact a Violent Habitual Offender due to his prior incarcerations in both Texas and Iowa, and sentenced him to twenty-five (25) years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections on the house burglary and life in prison without the possibility of parole on the attempted murder. The two sentences are to run consecutively, or one following the other.
