Greenwood, MS—Marvin Ivey (50 yoa) was found guilty today after just under a hour and a half of deliberations by a Leflore County jury of his peers, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.

Ivey had previously been indicted by a Leflore County Grand Jury for the October 2022 house burglary and attempt to commit murder of a Greenwood resident.  Ivey’s trial in this matter began on Monday afternoon and ended just before lunch on today.  After hearing all the testimony, reviewing the evidence and arguments of the attorneys, the Leflore County jury found Ivey “Guilty as charged for both counts.”

Ivey faces a potential penalty of Life in prison because he was indicted as a Violent Habitual Offender having convictions in the states of Texas, Iowa, and now Mississippi.  The conviction in Texas stemmed from the aggravated rape of another female victim.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Stanley Alexander and Amanda Langford. The Office of the District Attorney appreciates the hard work and dedication to justice by Sheriff James Payne, staff of the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Forensics Lab.  The Office of the District Attorney hopes these convictions provide the victim and her family and friends relief knowing that this violent criminal has been removed from the streets of Leflore County and justice was served.

Ivey’s sentencing is scheduled for January 2025.
