Greenwood, MS –Terry Williams Jr. pled guilty today in front of Leflore County Circuit Court Judge Carol White-Richard for his involvement in the shooting death of Greenwood teen Johnny Cage.
On June 9, 2022, Williams, Darius Sims, and James Cason planned to rob the Cage home in Snowden Jones. The next morning, Sims, the stepbrother of the fifteen-year-old victim Johnny Cage, left the front door open for Williams and Cason to carry out their plan. Johnny bravely attempted to prevent the robbery from happening but was unable to, and Cason shot him in front of his two younger brothers.
Williams along with Sims and Cason were originally indicted in 2023 by the Leflore County Grand Jury for Conspiracy and Capital Murder. On the morning of trial with a jury waiting to hear the case, he chose to plead guilty to the lesser-included offense of Second-Degree Murder as well as the Conspiracy. Under Mississippi law, Second Degree Murder carries a minimum sentence of twenty (20) years and a maximum of forty (40) years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Judge White-Richard sentenced Williams to five (5) years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections on the Conspiracy charge. He was also sentenced on the Second-Degree Murder charge to thirty-five (35) years to be served as twenty (20) years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with the remaining ten (15) years to be suspended upon completion of five (5) years supervised probation. The two sentences are to run concurrently with each other.
The case against Williams was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Sturniolo Langford and Patricia Hicks. ADA Langford stated: “All three of the co-conspirators have finally been brought to justice for the murder of Johnny Cage. Though I know that nothing will bring Johnny back to his family, I hope that his family feels that justice has been done and that they can finally begin the healing process. Though we have completed our fight for Justice for Johnny, we will never end our fight for all of the victims of Leflore County.”
One of Williams’s co-defendants, Darius Sims, previously pled guilty in April 2025, and the other co-defendant, James Cason, was found guilty after a two-and-a-half-day trial in August 2025.
