Greenwood, MS – In Greenwood, Joe Nathan III and Michael Garrett were sentenced to 20 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections by Judge Ashley Hines, District Attorney Dewayne Richardson announced today.
In July 2014, Joe Nathan III and Michael Garrett committed a series of Armed Robberies in Leflore County. On July 7, 2014 they robbed the Triple Stop on Moore Street where they held the store clerk at gunpoint and demanded the store’s money. Then just one week later on July 14, 2014 the two men then robbed the Short Stop store on Grenada Boulevard. It was after this second robbery that officers with the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department located them and charged them with the crimes.
Nathan and Garrett were ordered to serve 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the Armed Robbery conviction. 15 of those years will be served in prison without any early release. After serving the 15 years, both men will then be on probation for a additional 5 years.
Richardson added that, “the District Attorney’s office feels that justice has been served by the conviction and penalty imposed on these defendants. We hope that the victims can rest a little easier knowing that they are behind bars. All defendants sentenced to the Penitentiary for Armed Robbery are required by law to serve 100% of their sentence without any early release or parole.”
